Getting audio consistent!

  • Create new audition files from recording1 recording2, recording3
  • Try with just hiss reduction, try with just noise reduction from print, decide which goes first and if both are beneficial
  • Hiss reduction (8, 24)
  • Noise reduction from print (20, 15)
  • Denoise (40) (this may be degrading the audio)
  • Rename new audition extractions so they’re identifiable
  • Replace current audition extractions with new audition extractions
  • Remove previous audition extractions

Activity 3.1

John Snow is a significant historical figure in the field of epidemiology, the study of how illnesses spread. 

This came at a time that Cholera was not well understood and it was believed that the illness was spread through the air. John imposed data of an outbreak over a map that led to the discovery that cholera was not airborne, but occurred nearby water pumps that  carried tainted water.

Activity 3.2

Noelia, Rowan, Holly, & Sara

Relationship: scatter plot of spending vs income.

This graph shows a clear relationship, with a strong linear grouping. One issue might be that there seems to be two groups which makes any findings or results not immediately apparent.

Time frame or trend: google searches for ‘dystopia’ and ‘utopia’ between 2004 & 2021

The graphs have a lot of visual contrast and can be visually compared with ease, although the graph lacks clarity of information. Without interacting with the graph the user is unable to identify the year on the x axis, or the value on the y axis. 

Composition: Pie chart of wealth distribution

Data is represented by overall size or relative value, groups are easily distinguished making this graph successful at communicating information on first glance.

Comparison: Bar graph of spending

Values are visually compared in a way that does not incorporate relative values or percentages. The differences are immediately apparent without spending much time looking at the graph.

Activity 4.2

This can be displayed a few ways. Potentially the best way to display the entire dataset is by using a line graph for comparison.

Perhaps the best way to display the categorical variables within a single time variable would be to either use a pie graph for relative composition or a bar graph for comparison.
